Sheru Classic International Kabaddi Championship is organized by Sheru Classic World & England Kabaddi Federation UK. The Kabaddi matches will be on Sunday 13th August – TRU Athletes ISFF in ExCeL London.
For the first time in Kabaddi history, the competition will be held at ExCeL London, one of the largest indoor arenas in Europe. The venue offers ample on-site parking and convenient public transportation links. ExCeL is just across the river from O2 and is accessible by the “Emirates Air Line” cable car, a popular tourist attraction in its own right and worth a visit for the stunning views of London.
International teams from England, India, Pakistan, Canada, the USA, and Europe will participate for a chance to win prizes
Circle Style Kabaddi is a team sport that originated in rural villages of Punjab centuries ago. It is currently popular among the Punjabi community and played in countries where Punjabis have migrated, including Pakistan.
The game involves two teams, each consisting of 12 players, with 6 raiders and 6 stoppers. Only 4 stoppers can play at a time, and the other 2 are substitutes. Substitutions can be made during the match, but not during an active raid by the opposing team.
The objective of the game is for raiders to enter the opposing team’s half of the ground, touch one of the 4 active stoppers, and return to their own half within 30 seconds. Only the stopper with whom the first contact is made can try to stop the raider, while all other stoppers must stand aside and watch.
If the raider successfully touches a stopper and returns within 30 seconds, their team wins a point. However, if the raider fails to touch an active stopper or is prevented from returning to their side of the ground by the touched stopper, the stopper’s team wins a point.
To avoid draws, the first point is counted as 1.5 points, and subsequent points count as 1 point each. Matches consist of two halves of 20 minutes each, with a 5-minute halftime break. The team with the most points at the end of the match wins.
