Set Up Your Home Gym with these 5 Simple Steps

August 3, 2022

How to set up Home Gym

Exercise is very important for leading a healthy lifestyle. A daily dose of exercise will benefit our body in a positive way and boost our health and body fitness. But there are some people who are reluctant to do workouts in public areas or in gyms and prefer their own comfort space or home to do their daily workout. The reason for his hesitation could be anything, such as time constraints, budget constraints, or personal choices. Hence, we are here to give the most important steps to setting up the home gym with the most essential gym equipment that you need in your home to make a perfect home gym.

The reasons for having a Home Gym Set Up

Today, the most important reason for home gym setup is COVID-19. Many fitness enthusiasts have switched to home gyms for health reasons and due to virus inconsistency and find it convincing. Apart from this, there are other reasons such as:-

  • Many people find that commercial gyms are crowded and not hygienic because everyone is sweating and using the same equipment.
  • Since everyone is using the same equipment, the chances of skin infection will increase for people with sensitive skin.
  • Setting up a home gym is a cost-effective idea. You just have to make a one-time investment in your gym essentials and you are ready to hit the gym. Also, in a home gym, you do not have to pay gym membership fees, personal trainer fees, or other related fees every month or every year.
  • Some people are very concerned about their privacy and personal pace. A home gym setup gives them the opportunity to continue their workout at home and feel safer in their home.

Let’s get started with the How to do Home Gym Setup in 5 Steps.

STEP-1 CREATE THE RIGHT SPACE FOR YOUR HOME GYM

Building a home gym is an essential task. It is very important to find the right space for your home gym. You should always choose a spacious space for your home gym where you can use your gym equipment easily and can perform juggling, core exercises, or stretch out. The space you need for your home gym and the type of exercise you want to do will be determined by the size of your home.

For example, if you live in an apartment, you can choose the area of your living room or bedroom for workouts. You can also setup a home gym in your backyard, garage, or home garden. Just keep in mind that HIIT workouts require more space than other workouts, and heavy lifting with all its bells and whistles will require plenty of space.

STEP 2 : STOCK YOUR GYM

The most important thing to set up is the home gym equipments. There are a number of items available on the market, and you do not have to buy all of them. The purchasing list of your gym equipment depends upon the exercise you are striving for. Despite the fact that high-quality, reasonably priced gym equipment cannot fit into one box. As a result, people spend thousands of dollars on home gym equipments. Here we are going to provide you with a list of gym equipment based on the type of workout you do that is also affordable and good.

Cardio Exercise

Cardio is one of the most essential exercises concerning your weight and fitness, so you can add two things to your home gym setup. First the Jump-Rope and second, which is quite an expensive choice, the cardio treadmill machine. Most people who setup the gym at their home choose jump rope over a treadmill as it is more cost-efficient and also requires more effort to complete, burning more calories.

As Pete McCall, a personal trainer and host of the ‘All About Fitness’ podcast, explained, it is easy to stay motivated and achieve your fitness goals by planning your workout wisely. Cardio equipment such as treadmills, rowing machines, and spinning machines may be quite expensive, but if you have a good budget and good space in your home, then you must have them for your cardio workout as they give some serious calorie burn and should not be ignored for a serious cardio workout.

Strength Training

In commercial gyms, huge cable machines are required for strength exercises. However, for a home gym, you can have a kettlebell, a pair of adjustable dumbbells, or a set of complete dumbbells and resistance bands that provide the same muscle strength and muscle toning without the need for huge cable machines.

Stability balls and BOSUs are great for strengthening your core and maximizing balance, but they can be difficult to store in a small home gym setup. On the other hand, balance discs are best for home gym setup because they take up the same amount of space as a plate and offer the same benefits.

Recovery

Recovery equipment is very crucial for home gyms, whether you are into cardio exercise or strength exercise. Ellen Barrett, a fitness expert, recommends foam rolling because it has potential. You can use foam rolling to “knead” muscles and strengthen your core.

According to research, rolling your muscles with a foam roller can reduce your muscle soreness, fatigue, speed up post-workout recovery and increase overall muscular performance.

Look at the best initial gym equipment for quick home workout

  •     Jumping Rope
  •     Workout Mat
  •     Resistance Bands
  •     Workout Bench
  •     Heavy Bag
  •     Kettlebells
  •     Dumbbell Rack
  •     Open Barbell
  •     Home Exercise Bike
  •     Bumper Plates

STEP-3 PLAN YOUR STORAGE

Once you have purchased all the essential home gym equipment that you need for your workouts, then you can move forward with technically setting up your home gym. For this, you should first plan where to store all the equipment. For example, yoga mats can be rolled and stowed under the bed; treadmills can be folded and tucked away in the corner. But in the case of heavy plates, dumbbells, and barbells, you need extra space to place them, so you can buy a rack or a stand, which helps you optimize space as well as ensure your gym equipment is stacked away neatly.

STEP 4: DESIGN YOUR HOME GYM SETUP

If you have ever gone to a gym where you find a lot of difficulty in doing your stretching, biceps or shoulder workout, it is because the gym equipment is not placed in the right manner. The best home gym setup will not only have the most important gym equipment but also be placed in such a way that it will provide productivity and efficiency during the heavy workout.

Hence, you must have a good room with lighting, preferably natural lighting, and good ventilation with windows. Also, you must install a mirror, as Barrett says, “Mirrors are great for meditating on movement—the mirror lets you be your own instructor.” No matter what your exercise is, you must always design your home gym setup in a way that motivates you to do the workout every day.

STEP 5: PUT IT TO USE

Now that you have got everything that you need for your home gym, from gym space, gym equipment, and gym design, the most essential task is to put all the things into implementation. Whether you are doing a heavy workout or mixing different styles, you must incorporate the use of your home gym into your daily life. For extra fun and motivation, you can even invite your friends and loved ones to join you in your home gym session.

Words from us

If you are passionate and fully dedicated to setting up your home gym, then do not give it a second thought. Choose the kind of exercise you want to do, choose the equipment, make your budget and find the right quality. Anyone with a clever and creative mind can set up a home gym in their home. In your home gym, you can do yoga, cardio, strength training, and other exercises as per your convenience. Just stay dedicated and invest in your own body and your own self. Take advantage of the gym and make the best use of it. So stay healthy and stay fit.
